There was a lot of hype surrounding Sonys second entrance into the console market. The Playstation 2 has been a great system, however, some consider it to be poorly constructed and plagued with hardware issues.

The idea of downward compatibility in a console is one that gamers love. And being downward compatible with one of the largest game libraries on earth certainly helped to propel the Playstation 2 sales.
